Galaxy Twist Bleach Tie Dye Shirt

A couple weeks ago, iLoveToCreate designer Lauri Eaton came walking through the design studio and said, "Check out the shirt I just made!" We immediately dropped our jaws and awed at her cool galaxy creation.  She had been seeing a lot of cool galaxy art shirts and shoes online and was inspired to add in some fun tie dye scrunch and spray effects!  Today we share this super cool galaxy technique with you to try at home.  It's really OUT OF THIS WORLD! Lol.
What you need:
Tulip One-Step Spray Dye Kit
– Bleach
 – Spray bottle
– Sink
– Washer/dryer
– Scissors
– Dark colored t-shirt (black, brown, or navy)

Before you begin: Wash and dry shirt to remove fabric sizing. Note: Washing out the sizing will better allow the bleach to penetrate shirt fabric for a more intense design.

Cut a piece of your surface cover and fit it inside your shirt so that the bleach won't seep to the back (since it is plastic, it will easily twist with the fabric). Cover work surface with remaining portion of surface cover and lay shirt with plastic inside of surface cover.

Pinch shirt front between thumb and forefinger and twist until entire shirt is in a spiral.

Mix a 50/50 solution of bleach and water in spray bottle. Lightly spray spiraled shirt with bleach solution.

Allow bleach to remain on shirt until desired lightness is achieved. Spray again if desired for more effect. To speed up the process, use a hair dryer to blast hot air onto the bleach.

Bleaching is so cool!

Here's what it looked like when we opened up the shirt.

Wash out the shirt thoroughly until all the bleach is rinsed out. You can also throw the shirt into the washer and run through one complete wash cycle.  Leave shirt damp for the next step.

Now mix desired spray dye colors with water and spray the colors onto your bleached design as desired. Place plastic over the shirt and allow to set for 6-8 hours or overnight.
Once finished setting, individually wash and dry shirt according to dye packaging instructions.

Lay shirt out flat on covered work surface and spray lightly with Snow Fabric Spray  paint to create "stars".  Let dry completely before wearing and wait 72 hours before washing again.

Don't you just love how it turned out?  It's so funky!

Here's a colorful detail!
Here's another shirt we made using a black shirt instead of a navy one! What a cool way to add a colorful nebula look to your galaxy shirt using the dye!

DIY Tie Dye T-Shirt Bracelet

Tie Dye Your Summer is rolling on, and I've got a bracelet you can make in a flash with any tie dyed t-shirt!  This is a perfect Summer Camp craft for teens.  So easy to make and customize.  Tie dye a t-shirt, cut into strips, fold, glue and secure in fold over findings.  That's it!   It doesn't get much easier than that.  Tulip Tie Dyes are so easy to use, they're goof proof.  Plus how delicious are these vibrant colors?  Make an armful in a variety of colors and stack 'em up!
You will need:
White Cotton T-shirt (pre-washed)
(Kit includes dye, bottles, gloves, sheeting and rubber bands)
Metal Fold-over Findings with Clasp and Extension Chain
Ruler
Fabric Scissors
Flat nose pliers

Wash shirt first to remove sizing.  Tie dye works best with natural fibers like cotton.  Wet shirt.  Use rubber bands to tie off shirt in banded sections.  Add dye to sections.  It's okay if this isn't perfect, trust me.  I used neon yellow, pink and orange.  Let dyed shirt set in plastic bag for 6-8 hours and wash and dry following instructions on package.
Measure a section of fabric that is approximately 3" wide and long enough to wrap wrist.  Your clasp adds about 1/2", so factor that in when measuring.  Cut fabric into four even strips.
Add a little glue along inside of metal finding.  Fold each strip in half and line up between thumb and forefinger.  Gently place in finding as shown.  You want to be sure the fabric sections hit the top of the inside of the finding so they're secured when closed.
Use flat nose pliers to compress finding over fabric.  You have to squeeze this really hard, so don't be shy!  Repeat for opposite side (try to keep the folds in the same direction on both sides) and allow the glue to dry overnight.
These look best in groups, so make an armful!  I'm showing a group of three in the photos!
How would you style these bracelets?  Do tell!

How to make a Tie Dye Doily Collage

Tie Dye Doily Collage
Jaderbomb for iLoveToCreate

I am always looking for a fun way to add Tie-Dye to my home decor. The colors are so vibrant when everything is complete. How fun will it be to see something everyday that adds pure happiness in your life. Since it's almost Summer I thought I would show you how to bring Tie-Dye into your outdoor decor.
Let's get started because I am super pumped for you to make these!
You will need:
*Tulip One-Step Die-Dye Kit :  (Red, Yellow & Blue)
*Vintage Doilies or new ones
*Craft Brushes
*Picture Frames
*Fishing string to hang them on fence
*Lot's of LOVE

The first thing you will do is fill up your bottles with water.  What I love the most is the powdered dye is already in the bottle when you get it. There is a bold line at the top of the bottle that states how much water to put in the bottle so you don't have to measure anything.
When you get your pack of tie dye there will be a pamphlet in it showing you different techniques you can use. I like to use this for inspiration and possibly create new techniques from the ones shown on the paper. I always keep this for future reference.
(Trust me it comes in handy, plus it's pretty to look at)

Once you have your design complete in your head put the rubberbands that came with your package on your doily. Have fun and put as many as you want.
I start off by getting an old platter that I am ok with getting dirty and stained. I have an old cookie drying rack that I bought just for this purpose. I like it because it is raised and allows all of the dye to fall into the tray. If you are doing large items you might have to settle for a piece of visquin.
Don't forget to throw on the clear gloves that come with your tie-dye. This will prevent your fingers from getting stained.
I started by applying yellow first on one end.
Don't forget you can create "other" colors by putting these colors together!
*Red+Blue= Purple
*Red+Yellow= Orange
*Blue+Yellow=Green
*Yellow+Green=Lime Green
These are just some of the colors you can create by mixing.
Then right after the yellow I applied blue since I know the two colors will make a nice shade of green where they touch. You can always squirt more blue directly over the yellow to get more green.
Grab another doily and repeat the same steps. Make sure you change the pattern of your rubber bands to get different designs. This will look great once you hang them all up together.
I decided to do an Ombre doily because I think it looks beautiful when complete. To start you will apply a single color to one side. Make sure you squirt out a good amount so you can spread it with your brush. Don't brush completely over the doily if you want to add another complimentary color on the other side.
I like the color yellow and green create so I added yellow on my opposite end. It's really gorgeous because you get shades of lime green.
Time to dry. I always hang mine from a pot with a clothes pin. I enjoy when the colors bleed into each other. If you don't want the colors to fall downward lay your doily on a flat surface to dry. Let dry for 7-8 hours or overnight. I left my doily's outside all night. When you wake up take off the rubberbands and wash your doily. I recommend washing them by themselves.
(Make sure to keep your rubberbands, they will come in handy for bigger projects)
I love how delicate they look, yet so much fun!
I hope you enjoyed this tutorial! Just imagine how great these will look in your back yard (of course in a protected spot). If you don't have a backyard to put them in, you can always display them in your bathroom, kitchen, carport, living room, kids room or bedroom.
Big hugs from Jaderbomb to you! See you in the next post.
P.S. I promise when you start playing with Tie-Dye you won't be able to stop, hehe!

Five Fab Flower DIY Jewelry Projects

Over the years I've made a host of floral themed DIY projects for iLoveToCreate.  Perhaps it's driven by my allergies to pollen, but I have a long standing affinity for using flowers in my designs!  Here's a virtual bouquet of five fab flower DIY jewelry projects from me and my lovely daughter Avalon, all created with an array of pollen free DIY craft products from iLoveToCreate!

You can use chipboard, grungeboard or wood to make similar designs. Tulip Fabric Paints and Aleene's adhesives work on an endless variety of mediums.  These pieces were all very inexpensive to make, but they look very chic when worn.

DIY Tie-Dye Flower Power Necklace

I was so excited to hear that we were featuring Tulips One-Step Tie-Dye kits this month! They are so easy to use and the results are amazing! I had already used the Tie-Dye Kit to create Wearable Art so this time I wanted to make Jewelry combining my Spellbinder Dies and Beadalon findings.
All of my Favorite goodies in one project equals one Happy Girl!
I cut my bandana in squares by following the crease lines from the fold
Next I used some of the folding techniques from the instructions that are included in the kit. I also chose to randomly roll and add rubber bands to my squares to create a unique look.
I placed my bottles of Tie-Dye in a rubber container to protect my area. I also made sure to put my gloves on that come in the Tulip Tie-Dye kit. Using a pair of tongs to hold the folded square I randomly added different colors of Tie-Dye.
After applying the Tie-Dye I placed each square in a plastic bag. I let these little beauties set for about 6 hours. I then rinsed each one carefully and let them dry by natural sunlight.
They are so AWESOME! I wanted to stitch them all together for a super cool pillow topper! But wait I am making Jewelry! LOL!
I know what you are thinking.....BUT No I did not Tie-Dye Billybob's Pee Paws! However I am keeping these for a future project.
Using my Spellbinders Grand Calibur, I cut the Jewel Flowers out of the Tie-Dyed squares and felt for added support. I glued the pieces together using Aleene's Super Thick Tacky Glue
To assemble your Flower Power Necklace, lay chain down on your work surface, add a 1/8 hole punch to one set of the petals on each flower stack then secure them to the chain by adding a jump ring.
Last minute Inspiration! I did not want to take away from the cool Tie-Dye but felt the urge to add a little "Jewel" using Tulips Glam-It-Up. For extra security I added a little Aleene's Super Thick Tacky Glue to the center of the flower then adhered the stone.  Enjoy Life!
